While I was in Baghdad the Army ran a free clinic for the Iraqi civilians, the doctors treated many minor medical problems. We would go along and distribute things we had collected , toys and candy for the kids shampoo, soap, socks, shoes plus other health and comfort items.
I believe this is what rekindled my interest in doing charity work, as I had not thought about it in many years.
As I have traveled the world I have seen many amazing and beautiful places. Dubai, Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi, Naples, Vesuvius, Venice and Bangkok to name but a few.
I also witnessed the other side which so many tourists manage to miss, the extreme poverty and the heartbreak of little children living on the streets and fending for themselves.
In 2012 I spent 4 months in the VA hospital in Dallas. I had a close brush with death and decided that I needed to get started on this or I might NEVER manage to do it.
Shortly after leaving the hospital my mother passed away (79 years), she was the only person who ever really encouraged me to do this and we had many long conversations about the best ways to set it up. |
